Ultramarathoner!!!!

Logo2-e1369582232944On Saturday November the 15th I finished my first race longer than a half marathon, the Tortoise and the Hare 50K.  My time of 11:38:53 was one of the slowest of the days, but I overcame everything my body and the course threw at me and completed my first 50k race.  In a few days I will post a complete race recap, but for now just wanted to post that I finished and I am now an ultramarathoner and I achieved the major goal I set for myself this year.

My unofficial results with added mileage from aid stations and anything else that would add extra miles.

Elevation profile for the course. 5,817 feet of elevation gain with a max elevation of 3,284 feet.

I started at 6 A.M. and ran by headlamp for an hour. It was below 20 degrees out.

The temperature never got about 40 degrees. The trail's dangers were hidden underneath a thick matting of leaves. This trail had numerous loose rocks and jutting roots. The course was beautiful and technical.

Previously I had never ran in a race over 13.1 miles, so hitting 26.2 miles in this race was a pretty big deal to me. I made sure to snap a picture to mark the occasion and posted to facebook. I could not help but chuckle when I commented that I had hit 26.2 miles in a race for the first time and I still had roughly a 10k left to go.

The last 5 miles felt like they would never end. Finally I entered the parking lot, climbed down a flight of stairs and ran to the finish line to end my long day of running and earning the right to call myself an Ultramarathoner.

Finally I entered the parking lot, climbed down a flight of stairs and ran to the finish line to end my long day of running and earning the right to call myself an Ultramarathoner.  At this point my legs were so tired, these last few miles hurt as they were ran on pavement.  I found myself running until my legs got so tired I would then need to take a walk break.

After I finally crossed the finish line I could feel all the pain and hurt in my legs and back I had pushed aside to get me to this point. Now that I was done my body finally got to complain and every inch hurt. But I finished.

The finisher medal, one of my favorites now!

I will put a full race recap up later this week, for now I just wanted to post my success and share it with a few pictures of my day and achievement. Til next time.

    Congratulations! I hope you’re recovering well. 🙂

    1. Knees and ankles are the real sore spots right now. Almost can go up and down stairs. I am still hurting non stop hunger though, hopefully this will die down with time. Thanks.
